Zengaz: Care & Maintenance

All butane jet lighters require a touch of regular maintenance to guarantee optimal performance. Below, we address the most common jet lighter problems, answer basic questions, and provide some simple tips to keep your lighters in tip-top shape!

Why Did My Lighter Stop Working?

The most frequent reason a butane lighter will sputter or stop lighting is because it’s out of gas. It’s time to inject another dose of butane into the tank. We’ll discuss a few tricks for performing a thorough refill.

Another common cause that prevents a lighter from lighting is that its jets are clogged. Occasionally, dust or lint may clog the ignition valve, causing the lighter to malfunction. To clear obstructions such as these, blow a burst of air into the ignition valve.

How Do I Refill my Zengaz Jet Lighter?

To refill, flip your Zengaz lighter in an upside down position and insert the butane tank tip vertically downwards on the lighter’s refill valve. Press down firmly for about 5 seconds. Premium butane gas is highly recommended, as lower quality butane has been known to clog lighters.

After you’ve refilled the tank, wait for about three or four minutes before igniting the lighter. The temperature of the fuel is very cold when it is first released from the butane can. When the butane enters the tank of your lighter, it cools the entire lighter down. Once the lighter reaches room temperature, it is ready to work effectively again.

How Do I Store My Jet Lighter?

It happens all the time. You just refilled the tank and your lighter still won’t light. However, did you purge the lighter before you refilled it? Purging a lighter is also called “bleeding the lighter,” meaning you’re bleeding the air out of it.

Every time you inject butane into the tank to refill it, a tiny of bit of air sneaks in. After three or four refills, air accumulates inside the tank and prevents a full refill of butane from entering. As a result, your lighter will produce a sputtering or uneven flame, or even no flame at all, because the tank is releasing air through the jets instead of fuel when you hit the ignition.

Before storing your lighter, empty all fuel by pressing on the inlet valve with a small screwdriver (hold the lighter vertically while bleeding valve). If your lighter has not been used for a long period of time and appears to no longer be working, empty all fuel from the lighter then refuel and adjust the flame level (as mentioned in the re-felling instructions above). This should correct any problem.

We hope this helps! If you have any additional questions, please contact us and one of our customer service representatives will get back to you shortly!

So I have like I think 23 of these lighters and everybody thinks I’m insane because all I do is complain about them not working. I have to keep getting new ones, but I just absolutely love the fact that they have the designs on them and they are unique to me, but then again None of them work so they’re pointless… And I do everything right I purge them every time I use one that runs out. I use premium butane and I never switched. I keep them clean. I blow onto them. I think they’re dusty whatever… But the only thing I think I do wrong is I keep them lit for more than 30 seconds sometimes sometimes and they suddenly stop working after that now I have 20+ Lighters and. None of them work so I think I’m going to stop buying these… Especially the rounded top tip ones do not buy those!!

I just purchased a lighter from Lazy Lungz Smoke Shop, and when I went to try it at home, I could not get a flame out of it. I only bought the lighter because of its cool design, and I do not think they have another one like that. Is there any way I could fix it? I tried to purge it a little to see if that was a problem, but it wasn’t, and it is full on fuel. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix it?

I used a small object and very gently pushed the ignitor pin ever so slightly toward the burner plate. The pin was sparking, pushing it closer made it catch!

Bought a lighter, it sparks but doesn’t light. After one click it hisses for a few seconds then the hissing slowly fades away. So, mmmm. What’s wrong? Yes, I cleaned everything and bent the igniter pin, and still nothing..

My question is… what is the tiny screw for next the refill valve? Is that how you take it apart?
